“We’ll Find A Way” is about facing whatever life t “We’ll Find A Way” is about facing whatever life throws our way, finding another path when things get tough & never giving up hope. I hope this song finds you when you need a little reminder that no matter what, there’s always a way forward. Hope you enjoy revisiting this one as much as I enjoyed making it. Some of the songs I write are complicated because Some of the songs I write are complicated because the subject is complicated. “Yes & No” is one of those songs. Wanting something and not wanting it. Knowing the answer and still not knowing. Sometimes “yes” and “no” are both true. We lost @woodyguthrieofficial almost 60 years ago We lost @woodyguthrieofficial almost 60 years ago this month, but his music and his vision continue to speak to us. His songs have endured because they ask questions that never really stop being relevant - and they remind us of the power of music to bring people together. When I began working on “This World Is Your World,” I wanted to take the spirit of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” and explore what that idea might mean in the world we’re living in today. This was never about replacing Woody’s song. It was about entering into a conversation with it - with gratitude, respect, and the hope of carrying some of that spirit forward. The Guthrie Estate gave the project its blessing, and I was incredibly honored to receive a co-writing credit. That meant a great deal to me, both personally and as a songwriter. “This World Is Your World” and my full Notice Me album is streaming everywhere - link in bio. #StevenKeeneMusic #WoodyGuthrie #FolkMusic #ThisLandIsYourLand #ThisWorldIsYourWorld #NoticeMe
“Thesaurus” started with a simple idea: What if I “Thesaurus” started with a simple idea: What if I tried to cram as many @bobdylan & @leonardcohen references into one song as I possibly could? I originally wrote 97 verses. Dylan and Cohen have always had a huge influence on me as a songwriter. If you’re a casual fan of theirs, you’ll catch some references. If you’re a superfan, you’ll catch a lot more. If you didn’t catch it the first time around - let the hunt begin. What happens when prejudice becomes personal? That What happens when prejudice becomes personal? That’s the heart of “Until It Was My Child,” a song about a parent confronting their own beliefs when their child falls in love with someone they don’t accept because of race, religion, or sexual orientation. I recently talked about the song - and the power of music to spark change - with @kensconsin on Tuesday Unfiltered. My hope is simple: that this song makes people pause, question where prejudice comes from & choose understanding over judgment. Link to the full interview is on my Facebook page – link to the song & my catalog can be found in my bio. #stevenkeenemusic #wakeupcall #parenthood #singersongwriter #prejudice
"Them And Us" was a personal record for me. The so "Them And Us" was a personal record for me. The songs cover a lot of ground - love, loss, injustice, prejudice, hope, frustration & everything in between. Musically, I was pulling from a lot of different places too: gospel, blues, country and rock. I’ve never been particularly interested in putting everything into one musical box. This album was a good example of that. It’s always interesting to revisit an album years later & hear not just the songs, but a little bit of where you were & where you were headed. Revisit the full album & explore my entire catalog through the link in my bio. #StevenKeeneMusic #ThemAndUs #Americana #SingerSongwriter
